Alejo Veliz to La Liga Side Espanyol on a loan

Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz is set to join La Liga side Espanyol on loan for the 2024/25 season. This move comes after a challenging year for the 20-year-old forward, who has struggled to secure regular playing time at Tottenham since his transfer from Rosario Central in August 2023.

Veliz made headlines when he became Rosario Central’s most expensive sale, moving to Spurs for approximately £13 million. Despite high expectations following his performance at the U-20 World Cup, he has only made eight appearances for Tottenham, scoring once. His limited game time led to a loan spell at Sevilla, where he featured minimally, totaling just 31 minutes across six matches.

With Espanyol recently promoted back to La Liga, Veliz will have the opportunity to gain valuable playing experience. The loan agreement does not include an option to buy, meaning he will return to Tottenham at the end of the season. This move aligns with Tottenham’s strategy to bolster their attacking options, as manager Ange Postecoglou has indicated the need for a new striker following Harry Kane’s departure.

As Veliz prepares for this new chapter, he aims to make a significant impact at Espanyol and enhance his development in Spain’s top flight.
